Chapter 163 The Battle Rage On . . .
The Hunters were shouting at each other, but they didn\'t have time to argue. The Grendelkin was still alive, and it had a lot of HP left.
Teacher Fey raised her staff and began chanting in a last attempt to save her life. She cast a spell that would increase the power of two of her allies. Rather, it was the only spell she could perform right now.
That didn\'t help, for they were surrounded and cut off from everyone. Their initial plan to kill the Grendelkin swiftly and pincer the goblins from behind also didn\'t come to fruition because of that.
The Mages most devastating spells was supposed to decide everything, but who knew that the Grendelkin wore a specially crafted magical item that protected it from magical damage. And instead, the damage that should have reduced its HP to zero only added to its HP.
<Whoever made that magic item is surely an incredible magical user or an Alchemist>
Maybe she was also the one who transported the armies of goblins here. And maybe she was the parent of this Grendelkin.
<That was for sure>
The next thing I saw, the goblins jumped into Teacher Fey and what was left of the teachers and hunters. With the Goblins\' daggers and axe coated in poison, the Grendelkin didn\'t have to move before their small group succumbed to the enemies\' butchery.
The goblins attacked with blades and stones, even teeth and claws, swarming over Teacher Fey and the others and around their flanks. The battle turned to slaughter within minutes.
The group found themselves hemmed in and swept under, with no room to even wield their weapon. Many died at the point of their own swords. Others were torn apart. Even Teacher Fey wasn\'t spared. Her staff was torn from her grasp. Her body was pulled in every direction until her limbs were torn before her head was crushed with a cobblestone.
Nothing could be recognized by their corpses but splattered brain matter and guts.
Goblins were indeed one of the weakest creatures, but their numbers posed a great threat. And they were one of the many monsters who inflicted gruesome damage even in death.
When the teachers and hunters died, the soldiers immediately sounded the alarm for retreat.
The goblins were still too many. Our numbers were too few. The hunters and teachers were no more while the Grendelkin still stood tall with its HP near full.
Yep.
This spelled trouble for us.
My initial plan was to get away as soon as the Grendelkin was defeated because its throw actions were troublesome. No air balloon was safe if that thing was still standing.
But now that the odds were not in our favor, I guess there was no escaping using the air balloon.
Or so I thought . . .
Out in the corner of my eyes. There was one balloon flying near the back side of the walls. It was away from the Grendelkin\'s reach, that was for sure, and it wasn\'t Perry who was on board on that ride.
It was the leaders of the town abandoning their people. They thought that they were safe from the Grendelkin\'s reach. The balloon was going higher and higher, leaving the castle at a fast phase.
At the rate they were going away, there was no chance that the Grendelkin could catch up since the monster was situated near the woodland, and the balloon flew kilometers away from it.
Maybe if the Grendelkin had some kind of a [Blink] ability, then it could reach it on time.
The leaders thought that they were safe. I thought so too. I even decided that it was the best time to slip past the soldiers while they were still in chaos and join Perry in the merchant guild.
But a straight beam of light burst forth at the corners of my eyes and made me stop contacting Thomas to escape. The beam went straight at the escaping balloon. It caught in fire before it exploded, and all the riders in that balloon came falling to the hordes of Goblins below.
Needless to say, they died after a useless struggle.
It was a magic shot for sure, and I immediately checked the map. Sadly, the location was too far from the reach of my [Evil Eyes].
<It must be the sorcerer who summoned the armies of goblins here>
And maybe the parent of the Grendelkin as well.
There were unknown forces outside of these walls, but the big question was . . . why weren\'t they attacking together with the goblins?
Why only stay at a distance?
<Looks like it only attacked those who wanted to flee>
Like she wanted everyone dead in here.
At the sight, the low morale of everyone turned none existent, and all clamoured back into the safety of the walls.
Their formation broke apart. Everyone was racing into the gates and didn\'t care if they trampled one another in their haste. Those at the frontline were the first to die when they showed their back to the Goblins while the back lines were the first to enter the safety of the walls.
I immediately found Thomas on the map. I saw that he safely carried Amar inside before the riot ensued. That was good thinking on his part.
Everyone in the battlements tried their best to save as many of their soldiers and inhabitants by raining arrows and spells on the goblins down below. But the goblins were restlessness. Even struck in the eyes and all parts of their body, they crawled their way towards their target even if they had to use their sharp teeth to do so.
"Close the gates!"
"B-but, half of our soldiers are still not here!"
"Either that or risk total annihilation!"
Decisions were made and the ironed gates slowly moved into the ground.
The units that were stationed at the southern walls were completely cut off from the rest when everyone from the front, west, and east side broke their formation and retreated into the castle walls.
It was like watching a piece of meat being swarmed by ants. There was no saving them. That was certain.
